Lisa Sanders and Brown Sugar are an electrifying, bodacious, singing harmonizing duo with genuine heartfelt songs that are well crafted and sung with true conviction and meaning. This country bluesy duo have been performing their unique style of music for over ten years to enthusiastic fans across America.
Lisa and Karen are long time family friends who met briefly at a high school party, and later became great friends when their kids were in the same class at school. Neither one of them realized that one day they would be a couple of moms writing and performing as singer songwriters around the country.
Lisa Sanders is a two time San Diego, Best Acoustic Artist, A Reader’s Poll Best Acoustic Artist, Third place Telluride Bluegrass Festival New Folk Winner, The National Women’s Association Livening Legacy recipient, and The National Association of Professional Women Legacy Award recipient 2014.
Lisa started singing and writing at an early age with hopes of being a songwriter for the stars. As time went on Lisa was spotted and signed by Cargo Records singing in a coffee house. After a great chase Lisa was signed to the label as a singer songwriter. Then shortly after she signed to MCA for a distribution deal as well as publishing through Windswept Pacific. Lisa Sanders has eight CD releases to her credits. Five released on her own label, Maya Jade Music.
Karen Hayes aka (Brown Sugar) has been singing since high school. When Lisa noticed that Karen knew all of her songs and had an amazing sense of harmony, Lisa asked Karen to join her band. They have since become a duo powerhouse with harmonizing skills that have garnered them many accolades and opening spots with artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams, BB King, Al Green and many more.
Lisa Sanders and Brown Sugar are set to tour in support of their 8th CD release “Shiver”, which was nominated for San Diego Music Awards Best Pop Album. It was produced and recorded by Jeff Berkley of Berkley Hart and recorded with the Lisa Sanders Band lead by Jeff Berkley.
Dave was born in Eugene, Oregon, but spent his formative years in Amherst, MA and eventually attended Oberlin College. After a summer beneath the Tetons, teaching in the Black Hills, travel through Central America, and treks across southern Idaho, Dave finally came back east to join the Cambridge folk scene. He completed his first CD several years later.
As a result, Dave was selected as a finalist for West Virginia’s Mountain Stage emerging artist competition. “The Burn of Summer” enjoyed regular airtime on Folk Radio’s WUMB and Emerson College’s WERS. Several years later, Dave returned to the Pioneer Valley, home of strong coffee, and strong women. Dave released his 2nd CD “Gilding the Lilies” in 2011.
